The F-4 Phantom II is a two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic jet interceptor and fighter-bomber originally developed for the United States Navy by McDonnell Aircraft. It first entered service in 1960 with the U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Air Force later adopted it as well. The Phantom was used extensively by the U.S. military during the Vietnam War, and was also adopted by several other countries, including Japan, which operated it as the F-4EJ.
