IJA Shinhoto Chi-Ha Medium Tank (early hull Type 97)


Shinshoto stands for a new turret, in this case, a revised version of Type 97 tank including a new main gun. It was in production between 1942 and 1943. It was fitted with a designed for Type 1 Chi-He tank turret equipped with a high-velocity 47mm gun and upgraded bolt on armor. Type 97 was designed in the 1930s and produced by the Mitsubishi corporation in more than 3 000 units, which made it the most widely produced Japanese medium tank of World War II.
